It is always unfortunate to hear of motor vehicle collisions on North Carolina roadways. When a car accident results in the loss of life, it is tragic. In a recent incident, two vehicles, a tractor-trailer, and a car were involved in a crash. Sadly, three died in the collision, and another person was injured.

Parents were reportedly traveling on Interstate 40 with their 10-month-old son when the recent tragedy occurred. A fourth person, the child’s grandmother, age 54, was behind the wheel of the family’s vehicle at the time. A state trooper said that as the car was heading down the highway, a tractor-trailer merged into its lane.

The merging semi-truck caused the motor vehicle to careen off the road and into a nearby wooded area. The grandmother was taken to a hospital for treatment of her injuries. Tragically, the infant and his parents, both of whom were in their early 30s, were killed in the crash.

The truck driver has been criminally charged in the incident, and he now faces three counts of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. A North Carolina car accident attorney can advise anyone who has suffered the loss of a loved one in similar circumstances. State law allows immediate family members to act on behalf of a decedent in court in order to seek compensation for damages associated with a car accident. Court-awarded monies are able to be used to help offset the cost of a funeral, as well as pay for any medical bills for treatment that might have been rendered before the time of death.
