It Might Be Time to Inspect Your Vehicle

The month of June marked the start of National Safety Month. All month long, businesses and the public took time to prevent injuries and deaths in the name of safety. With that being said, it’s still a great time to make sure your vehicle has had a proper inspection. Our team of personal injury lawyers can assure you that plenty of injuries can be avoided with just the simplest task. Road injuries are no different.

The best way to know how to approach inspection depends on the make and model of your vehicle. Consult your car’s manual for directions.

Why Is Inspection Important?

Car maintenance is important because you never know what’s under your car’s hood. Even the smallest of problems can lead to big consequences. If your car isn’t running smoothly, it can cause trouble on the road.

For example, let’s explore oil changes. Routine oil changes are one of the most overlooked checkups. It’s easy to keep putting them off. But what can happen if you keep pushing the oil change aside? ABC News reports that skipping these vital changes can be detrimental to your car’s engine. Allowing your vehicle to function on low oil levels can lead to engine failure.

Imagine that your engine fails while you’re in the middle of driving to the market. You slam into another car, damaging yourself and others. In addition to this, the money that it will cost to fix your engine? Way more than if you had just taken your car for a simple oil change.

Can I Do Any Checks on My Own?

While you should have a professional inspect your car, there are a few things you might be able to do on your own. If you have mechanically-inclined friends, they can change oils and other fluids and they might even be able to rotate tires or check the pressure. You can fix simple things like refilling the cleaning fluid for your windshield wipers, but DON’T perform any work on your car if you are not fully qualified to do so.

The one thing that everyone can do is “listen” to their car. Paying close attention to sounds. Lights can alert you if something is wrong. That means pay attention to your “check engine” light!

Are Inspections Legally Enforced?

According to the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles, most vehicles require both safety and emissions inspections. New residents to North Carolina aren’t required to get these checkups immediately, but you will need one when it’s time to renew your registration.

Some vehicles may be exempt, but it’s still recommended to always maintain your car with routine inspections.

Taking precautions won’t always protect you or your loved ones from getting hurt. If you seek justice and compensation, we at Rhine Law Firm, P.C., can help. We have experienced car accident lawyers for serious accidents that can represent you in your time of need.
